“Looking at your programme, I can see that no serious discussion of competition control these days can ignore the uncertain financial and economic situation that is holding the euro area, Europe and the world in its grip.”

Joaquín Almunia, Vice President and Commissioner for Competition (European Commission) at the Competition Summit 2011.

THANKS TO THE EU SINGLE MARKET, THE ECONOMY OUTLOOK STANDS BETTER NOW, at least on paper, and although febrile seizures may re-emerge at any time, for any possible reason.

Facing rogue speculators and various types of abusers, regulators bring the powers back in their hands. Does it mean less freedom? Less business for companies? No, it basically means that financial tools must be used to better serve the real economy, so that societies and consumers can take the lead of XXIst century democracies.

At least on paper. In real-life, authorities and regulators are working hard to find the best compromises, sometimes not compromising at all. Figures are recalculated to approach the truth. There is no universally recognized ideal in a global world with competitors everywhere. But, as long as they behave fairly, most of the trouble is kept at a low level.

No easy equation here, just facing facts and adopting better practices. Tough questions will heat debates at the 3rd Competition Summit on December 5-6, 2013 at the Radisson Blu Royal Brussels.

Through 32 plenaries and workshops, 100+ top speakers and 300+ delegates will address topics such as profitability of compliance programmes, remedies packages, joint-ventures, minority shareholdings, BRICS and trade issues, fines, leniency, fair use of patents, the new TTBER, vertical restraints, private & class actions, and industry spotlights on finance, energy, telecoms, pharma…

Since 2009, the Competition Summit has brought together public and private spheres on a pan-European knowledge platform. We look forward to welcoming you again at this very competitive occasion.
