When the idea of organising the IP Summit Trademarks in Alicante came about, Premier Cercle made a trip to the city, to start work on the conference itself as well as to get acquainted with the place. It took us almost by surprise; Alicante is a lovely, dynamic little city, with a very Mediterranean feel, and a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Even though Alicante is by now a familiar destination for many in the IP community, we thought you might appreciate a few tips on what to do and see during your trip to the IP Summit: Trademarks.
The social programme that awaits you will certainly feature a lot of the city´s highlights. And bear in mind that you won´t get a lot to time to sightsee while the conference itself is on, from the 10-11 of December. But you might like to take the opportunity to spend a couple of days in and around Alicante before or after the event itself.

So we´ve gathered a few suggestions to share with you. It´s not a real city guide – more of a glimpse into what Alicante has to offer. But we hope it will help you enjoy this lovely place as much as we did.

The sea and light are the first things everyone notices about Alicante, and even in December, you must try to take in some sea air and stunning views, at least once. Yes, you can certainly see the beauty of the coastline and the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea as you take off and land at the airport – but it would be a shame just to see them out the window of the plane! Almost everywhere in Alicante gives you the chance to gaze at the beauty of the ocean; the terrace at  OHIM’s, Alicante beach, Esplanada de España along the port, and for a more scenic view, from Castillo Santa Barbara where the closing cocktail of the IP Summit will take place.

If you have more than a few minutes to spare, you can sip a glass of wine on one of the many terraces along Esplanada de Espana, stroll through El Barrio (the old town), wander around San Nicolás Cathedral and the Ayuntamiento, or just soak up the atmosphere in the many city squares, surrounded by palm trees.

And you cannot leave Alicante without indulging in some of the city´s finest cooking. Here, you are truly spoilt for choice:  arroces (so many delicious ways to cook rice), jamon, queso, turron of course, and wine. There are so many nice restaurants to choose from, but one of our favourites is La Taberna del Gourmet ( – tell them we sent you! For a great icecream (Sicilian, but if you take the incredible Turron flavour, it becomes a real spanish icecream), go to Livanti close to San Nicolás (

If you want to dedicate some time to culture, go and check out the fascinating permanent exhibition at MARQ (Museum of Archeology of Alicante) :

- MACA (Museum of Modern Art of Alicante),
Or, if you follow the Volvo Ocean Race, there´s a museum dedicated to the race itself that´s well worth a look: (

And here are just a few links, for more information on the city and the area:

We wish you a fruitful conference and pleasant stay in Alicante.
